| The
Sisters of Nazareth were founded in 1864 in London, England by
Mother Saint Basil and a group of Sisters who had come from
Brittany, France to work among the poor in London. When it
became apparent that conditions in London warranted changes in
their apostolate, Cardinal Wiseman received authorization from
the Holy See to reestablish the Community as the Sisters of
Nazareth.
The Sisters live and
work in Nazareth Houses, which provide housing and care as well
as spiritual sustenance for the aged and infirm, as well as
young people, who are poor and needy. They are nurses, teachers,
dietitians, social workers, house mothers, and clerical workers
within their Nazareth Houses. |
