The Sisters of Life is a
contemplative/active religious community of women founded in
1991 by John Cardinal O’Connor for the protection and
enhancement of the sacredness of every human life. The heart of
the community is the Eucharistic Lord, through Whom their prayer
is made, in Whom their common life is found and from Whom their
apostolate is born.
Reverence and gratitude for the unique
and unrepeatable gift of each human life made in the image and
likeness of God fuels the prayer of each Sister, her first
mission in building the Kingdom of God and the “culture of
life.” Daily the Sisters come together for the Holy Sacrifice of
the Mass, to chant the Divine Office and to pray a Eucharistic
Holy Hour and the Rosary.
A rich, joyful and generous common life
is essential to the Sisters of Life, for in the words of their
Founder, “ a call to the Sisters of Life is a call to holiness
through community.” The charism of reverence for each human life
is first lived between the Sisters, who accept the call to
common life with grateful enthusiasm and strive to live it both
as a model for family life and a witness to those served in the
apostolate.
The Sisters of Life
aim to employ all their gifts of nature and grace in the
apostolate, that nothing of the gift of life, and no one to whom
it has been given, should be lost. The Sisters welcome pregnant
guests in need to live with them in the “Holy Respite” of one of
their convents, facilitate “The Nurturing Network,” a national,
phone-based mission to pregnant women in need of practical
assistance, invite those who have suffered abortion to
Sacramental healing through day and weekend retreats of Hope and
Healing, operate a life-issues library, direct the New York
Archdiocesan Family Life/ Respect Life Office and evangelize on
the sacredness of human life throughout the nation. |
