The
Institute of the Sisters of Saint Ann was founded in Turin,
Italy in 1834 on the initiative of Carlo Tancredi Falletti and
his wife, Giulia Colbert, Marquis and Marchioness of Barolo.
They desired to give the Church a new religious institute
dedicated to the Christian instruction and formation of children
and young girls belonging to needy or less well-off families,
without neglecting the children and young people in other walks
of life, and which would be available for any charitable service
which would respond to the needs of the times and be compatible
with the institute's aims.
The main
element in the spirituality of the Sisters of Saint Ann is a
life of filial union with the Blessed Trinity, witnessed in
total availability to fraternal love and the mission. The
institute was soon extended to the missions, particularly in
India, through the missionary heart of Mother Enrichetta
Dominici, the institute's Superior General, who was beatified by
Pope Paul VI on May 7, 1978. During our 166 years of apostolic
experiences our Congregation spread its service to twelve
countries in the world: Italy, Brazil, Switzerland, Mexico,
Philippines, Peru, Argentina, United States, Cameroon, Congo,
China.
Here in the
United States we are presently engaged in teaching positions in
diocesan Catholic elementary and secondary schools: Catechetical
instruction; Pastoral ministry; Retreats apostolate; Youth
groups; Mission apostolate; and many other charitable
activities.
We welcome
young women who are in good physical and emotional health,
between the ages of 18 and 30, and have at least a high school
diploma.
