Dr. Joaquin
Masmitja founded the congregation on July 1, 1848, in Olot,
Spain. Attentive to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and to
the needs of the Church, he conceived the idea of an institute
with dual goals: that of converting sinners by means of prayer
and sacrifice; and that of Christianizing society through
catechesis and education.
The Sisters
of the Immaculate Heart of Mary feel called to share a desire of
total consecration to Christ and to one another. We proclaim, in
our simplicity, a happy and hospitable attitude. In prayer we
find the Lord's strength which opens our hearts to our brothers
and sisters. Mary, our Mother, has a very important place in our
life and in our community. She is the center of our apostolate
in education and pastoral ministry and the guide of our
commitment.
