| The Diocesan Sisters of
Mercy serve the Diocese of Portland according to the charism of
Venerable Mother Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Institute
for the care of the poor, the sick and the uneducated.
Our Mercy Community continues that special ministry which is sanctioned not only by the traditional religious vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, but by a fourth vow centering on service to the Church through the Spiritual and Corporal works of Mercy as Eucharistic ministers, in visitation to the sick and the elderly, as teachers in college and parish schools, and in tutoring and social services. |
