We, the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus, are a contemplative-apostolic religious congregation, an Ecclesial Congregation of Pontifical Right. Since its very beginning in 1891 in Berlin, Germany, our congregation has been formed by the spirit of Carmel, of St. Teresa of Jesus, and of our foundress Mother Mary Teresa of St. Joseph. The charism of Carmel consists essentially and above all in the following and continuing of the praying Christ in a Marian attitude. We follow St. Teresa of Jesus by striving for union with God through a life in which prayer-especially contemplative prayer-as apostolic service in the Church, holds first place and is the source of our life and activity. The charism of our foundress was to put the contemplative spirit of Carmel into the active service of the direct apostolate. This union of prayer and service is our life and our mission, our gift to the Church and the world. It was the explicit will of our foundress that our apostolate should be carried out in harmony with community life and religious discipline. Therefore we exercise our apostolic works of the missionary apostolate, the Christian upbringing of children and youth, and the care of the aged in houses that are directed by our congregation in Europe, the United States, Canada, Central America, South America, and Africa. We enthusiastically welcome into our community Catholic women with the following qualifications:

Between the ages of 19 and 30 (exceptions can be made).

In good physical, mental and moral health.

A persistent desire to give oneself generously to God and His Church.
