The Corpus Christi Carmelites were founded in England in 1908 by Mother Mary Ellerker of the Blessed Sacrament. Now known simply as our beloved Little Mother, she was a convert who longed for the reunion of Christianity and was especially determined that our Sisters never refuse any request for service from the Church, whatever the need might be. We also devote ourselves to learning, living out, and promoting the "little way" of St. Therese of Lisieux, who is our special patroness. The Corpus Christi Carmelites are missionaries in the Caribbean, England, South America, and the United States. The Sisters are engaged in many and diverse apostolates; including teaching, nursing, psychology, prison chaplaincy, homes for children, schools for challenged and troubled youth, to name but a few. In the United States, the sisters are located in the diocese of Grand Island, Nebraska, where they oversee the operation of Mount Carmel Home, a licensed nursing facility, and also maintain a convent in Newport, Rhode Island. The Corpus Christi Carmelite seeks to be the living reflection of Jesus Christ in all whom she serves. Her life is spent in the service of God through the profession of the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
