The Marian Sisters of the Diocese Lincoln, a community of diocesan rite, was founded in 1954 by Sr. Marta Silna and Sr. Theresa Gottvald, who were members of the Mercy Sisters of St. Francis.  After escaping communist Czech Republic, they came to Lincoln, NE where they were asked by the local Bishop to start a new community, which is now known as the Marian Ssiters of the Diocese of Lincoln.

They continue to follow the Rule of St. Francis, and have been given the charism of doing God’s will joyfully in imitation of Mary and St. Francis.  They strive to live their charism through the apostolates of teaching, nursing, and social work, or any needs of the Diocese to which the Bishop may call them.

Prayer enfolds the sisters’ life, for they cannot give what they do not have.  Their espousal to Christ must be primary.  Daily Mass, Communal prayer and private prayer sustain them.  The community also has a monthly day of recollection and yearly week-long retreat.
