Commonly known as the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne, this community was founded in 1900 by Rose Hawthorne, the daughter of the author, Nathanial Hawthorne, and convert to Catholicism.

The Sisters have three homes in the United States - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Atlanta, Georgia; and Hawthorne, New York.  The sisters provide a free home to those suffering, from incurable cancer who are unable to afford nursing care elsewhere.

Applicants must be in good health and have at least a high school diploma. Admission of older applicants is decided on an individual basis.
