Fr. Hugolinus Dach, an Augustinian from Wuerzburg, Germany, founded the Sisters of St. Rita in 1911. He was a caring pastor who recognized a tremendous need for a special apostolate, Family Care. He placed the women under the patronage of St. Rita of Cascia, a fifteenth century Augustinian nun, who had been wife, mother, widow, and later was a mystic. In 1939, three of our Sisters came to the United States to help the Augustinian Fathers in New Hamburg, New York. These three Sisters had been to Bolivia as missionaries and were not able to return to Germany because of World War II. In 1942, the Sisters came to Racine, Wisconsin. In 1971, they opened a retirement home, St. Monica's Senior Citizens Home. It was a dream come true. The Sisters are still operating the Home and taking care of 112 elderly people.

Following the example of St. Rita, we want to bring more peace, humaneness, and Christian charity to our time. Our main apostolate is Spiritual/Social Family Care with all its diverse ministries.
